The Kingdom Lesson Set is part of the Incredible Story Sunday School Curriculum that is designed to spark a lifelong love of God's story. This lesson set provides an overview of 1 Kings. Instead of focusing on specific stories, the lessons help elementary aged children understand the books within the grand biblical narrative and spark conversations about some key themes:
- God’s Kingdom vs. earthly kingdoms
- God’s faithfulness and human forgetfulness
- Israel’s response to God and our response to God
This set includes four lessons than can fill 4 hours or more of program time (with plenty of ideas to adapt to your specific setting). The lessons include:
Lesson #1: KINGDOM QUEST - a dice rolling, card drawing, block building game that introduces parts of the biblical story and engages students in the task of building a kingdom.
Lesson #2: KINGDOM MAPS - students become cartographers and design their own map that helps to tell the stories of 1 & 2 Kings.
Lesson #3: KINDOM TREASURES - students 'dig up' artifacts from the era of 1 Kings. Storytelling paired with hands-on activities introduces Ahab and Jezebel and prompts kids to use their imaginations as they consider the character of God.
Lesson #4: KINGDOM WORSHIP - Through the story of King Solomon and the building of the temple, children are reminded of Israel’s worship practices. They hear when Israel remembers God and forgets him. This story becomes a pathway for us to explore how we remember God through our own worship. Activity stations will be designed around your own church practices as children deepen their understanding of their own worship and how it shapes their faith.
BONUS: KINGDOM PLAY STATIONS - Simple play-based activities for early learners that connect to the Kingdom theme. Great support for multi-age program settings.
